What is a Doula?

A doula is a calm, steady presence who walks beside you and your family through the sacred seasons of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Having a doula assist during your birth will include preparing your birth plan, practicing comfort measures, optimal positions and natural pain relief methods that are ideal for pregnancy, labor and beyond. It’s imperative to us that you and your family feel confident, empowered and informed enough to ask questions when needed, to communicate effectively and feel rooted in your instincts throughout the birthing process. During pregnancy and birth, we bring warmth, knowledge, and hands-on comfort to help you feel safe and supported. Together, we’ll create a birthing space that feels grounded and peaceful.. one where your voice is heard, your choices are honored, and your intuition is trusted. With the ever-changing and unpredictable healthcare climate, doulas have never been more important.

In the tender postpartum weeks, we offer gentle, practical, and emotional care as you and your family recover and settle into life with your baby. From nourishing meals and restful guidance to simply holding space for your emotions, I’m here to help you find balance and ease in this new chapter.

At its heart, doula care is about remembering that birth and parenthood are not just medical experiences, but deeply human, soulful journeys. Birth is an act of becoming. A doulas role is to hold space for you in those sacred moments—to remind you that you already carry the wisdom and strength you need.

Meet your Doula

Vanessa Appleton - Doula & Yoga Instructor

Hi, I’m Vanessa! I’m an ERYT-500, Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance and DONA-trained Birth & Postpartum Doula with over 10 years of experience in yoga, somatic breathwork, meditation, and movement. After navigating years of unexplained hormonal issues, endometriosis, and becoming a mother myself, I’ve dedicated my work to women’s health, specifically perinatal care- Before, throughout and after pregnancy.

I truly believe our system struggles to provide women with the correct tools, education, or understanding we need to connect with our inner world or care for our health in a meaningful, holistic way. My mission is to bridge that gap. I offer continuous support, personalized guidance, and holistic practices- from yoga and breathwork to perinatal support and beyond. My approach blends evidence-based care with intuition, helping women feel informed, empowered, and deeply supported every step of the way. Whether we work together virtually or in-person, I’m here to help you feel grounded, confident, and cared for in body, mind, and spirit. <3
